Some Galaxy Updates

It is, perhaps, a bit unseemly to post twice in such quick succession. But there are a few juicy tidbits worth mentioning today.

First, Curt Onalfo, formerly coach at DC, has joined the Galaxy as an assistant coach, taking Cobi Jones’ place. Arena now has two assistants who have each had their own MLS team.

Second, the Galaxy signed Miguel Lopez on loan from Argentinian second-division club Quilmes. I have seen him described as both a midfielder and forward. In any event, he adds some depth and options in attack. I suspect he’s cover for Juninho, but we’ll see.

Third, the Galaxy signed their second home grown player (the first, Tristan Bowen, they traded away this year). He is 16-year old Jack McBean. He is currently in the US U-17 residency program and should be joining the team in the Spring. He is also a forward. I don’t expect we’ll see him in the starting lineup too much, but the thing with these kids is you never know. Just ask Andy Najar.

Fourth, The Bruce has enlightened us somewhat on the lineup. He is quoted as saying that with the number of games they have and the usual injuries they will likely end up mixing up the lineup and trying different things, but, as expected, he prefers pairing a second forward up top with Angel. Who that will be, still remains a mystery.

Grahame Jones has an enlightening article today about the lineup options: http://me.lt/3n7KP

Scott French has some more detail on the new additions: http://me.lt/3b02m
