Some New Sponsors for those Annual Awards

By: Laurie | October 17th, 2007

soccer-trophy2.jpgIf you watched the weekend’s Galaxy game against Toronto, you saw our Galaxy boys get their annual awards. And those awards were:

Visa Defender of the Year: Ty Harden
Budweiser Golden Boot: Landon Donovan
Honda MVP: Chris Klein
US Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year: Landon Donovan

Congrats to the guys (and especially to Chris Klein, who has persevered over so much criticism this year. I’ve really come to like and appreciate what he offers on the field, and he comes across as a genuinely nice guy as well.)

But what about those sponsors? Okay, so the US Soccer Foundation one works. But VISA Defender? BUDWEISER Golden Boot? HONDA MVP? These make no sense whatsoever. I’m thinking we need to come up with sponsors that actually have something to do with the awards being given.

Such as…? you ask.

Well, for example:

Trojan Defender of the Year: For the player who keeps out those pesky invaders who are doing their best to spoil the fun.

KY Jelly Golden Boot: For the player best able to slip through and score.

Viagra MVP: For the player with the consistent ability to rise up and get the job done.

(I am so going to hell for posts like this one. I find myself writing things like this, and then I think, PLEASE do not let my mother-in-law suddenly start taking an interest in soccer.)

Your best so far…and the illustration strangely fits all three, although maybe that was just looking at it after I read them.
