(Some of) Our Galaxy Guys Take on Mexico
By: Laurie | February 8th, 2007Okay, my thoughts on the Galaxy guys’ performances at Phoenix last night. (And I will admit here that this was the second of two back-to-back games I watched in an Irish pub, so there’s…um…maybe a little fuzziness of memory here. Sorry. Details on my France page.)
But anyhow.
1) Joe Cannon was the backup keeper to Tim Howard (currently playing for Everton, EPL.) And, alas, if last night is anything to go by, Joe will continue to be only a backup. Howard was awesome! Maybe a bobble or two, but in general VERY solid. (And…well, Tim, thank you SO much for reinforcing my Eurosnob bias. I have been working so hard on that!!)
2) Chris Albright was a dramatic player. Meaning he kept showing up on my radar screen, both good and bad. He’s interesting to watch, and I’m reserving judgment till I’ve seen more of him in action.
3) Landon Donovan was not a dramatic player. Meaning for most of the game..well…where the hell was he? (Brother-in-blog Connor says, “style of talent with a hint of complacency,” and that feels right. But, of course, there were two major exceptions: that absolutely beautiful, perfectly placed corner kick that led to the first goal, and, of course, the second, purely Donovan goal. (Well, okay, with a little help from the ref.) What would he be like if he played like that all the time?
But all in all… Well, I’m a little hung over, so I’ll just let you write a creative, pithy conclusion to this post. And attribute it to me. Thank you.
