Thanks to Readers of LA Galaxy Offside
By: Laurie | August 2nd, 2007Okay, first thing? I promise not to go all Sally Field on you.
(You like me. You really like me.)
Oh. Wait. Sorry. Flashback. It was beyond my control.
What I really wanted to say was, thanks. Thanks to you, and thanks to Beckham. Thanks to Becks for coming to the Galaxy, and thanks to you for wanting to read about Becks coming to the Galaxy. And, of course, thanks to everybody who recognized that the Galaxy were a team worth following long before Becks made the leap. Because of the combination, this blog tripled in number of hits between June and July — from 13-14,000 hits per month to over 40,000.
And not only that, post hits were up to over 53,000. Which means that some of you have been hitting the archives. You have no idea how happy this makes me. The archived posts are like my much-adored yet bastard children, hidden away in the dark, just waiting for somebody to come in and love them. If you are that someone? Well, bless you.
And if you leave comments, which remind me that yes, there are actually people out there reading my drivel? Well, bless you double.
It’s been more than six months for this blog. And it’s been tons of fun. I hope you’ve enjoyed your visit(s) and I hope you will return. Frequently. And bring friends. And insert links in your own blogs. Because the Galaxy still has a long, long rest of the season remaining.
And after nights like last Tuesday night? You will keep me sane.
And to reward (or is it punish?) you for your loyalty, I want to link you to one of my favorite bastard child posts, which I had actually forgotten I’d written until I went searching for something else.
We may not have voted any of our guys into the All Star Game, but this post remains.
And again. Thank you.

Laurie, just to let you know, Du Nord is calling him “Beckman” from now on. I think we should all do the same.
And yes, we do like you and your infatuation with Zidane.

My infatuation with Zidane? What?
I’m sorry, but I’m a happily married woman. You must have me confused with someone else.

I started reading this and I thought you were leaving or something … phew … you were getting all emotional and … anyway, glad you’re not leaving. Where would I get my MLS news and vegetable innuendo? Keep it up.

Thanks for writing this blog, Laurie!
In fact, you inspired me into moving beyond my euro snobbery and give MLS a chance. And while I haven’t embraced it as whole heartedly as you have just yet, I try to watch a game a week, or at least the highlights (my team of choice is DC United).
Oh, and I got my DC United – LA Galaxy tickets in the mail today. With my luck, Beckham probably won’t play (my mother will be so disappointed), but my sister, dad, and I will be hoping for good football!.

Ian, you’re not getting rid of me that easily. At least until Becks plays a full game. SO you’re probably safe this season.

I think your increase in hits came from visitors of Bigsoccer and LARS message boards. That’s where I found your blog. Thanks for writing about the Galaxy.

Greybush, that definitely had something to do with it. (Were you the one who posted the links? Thanks much for that!) Before those links I noticed that my blog would bounce up and down when I googled “LA Galaxy” — up to third, down to seventh or so. After those links were posted, it jumped solidly into third — directly after the Galaxy homepage and Wikipedia. And that’s where it stayed, getting displaced only by additional individual posts from the Galaxy homepage. (Not that I, y’know, track this obsessively or anything.)
And Beckham definitely helped too — I noticed a lot of incoming links around time of his arrival from people giving the Galaxy a try for the first time.
