It's great to say again, we are the CHAMPIONS this season!!!

Hopefully Beckham stays. The latest update is that Galaxy has signed Brazilian midfielder Marcelos Sarvas to booster the midfield ranks.

I was hoping to see a three-man midfield of Beckham, Sarvas and Stephens, in a 4-3-3 formation. That really piques my interest the most, to see how the three of them can play off each other. Defensively, I was wondering the defensive pairing of Boyens-DeLaGarza can hold up the fort and better, if not maintain the record of 28 goals conceded last season. Brazilian Yuri Gorentzaig offers an interesting offensive option up front, along with youthful Jack McBean and Villareal. I am sure these young players have plenty to offer in light of Galaxy's hectic schedule.

Cardozo left out once again…Get a clue, Arena!

Good post. I'll come clean as a Toronto fan here, and I'm quite excited about last night's win. It was definitely a hard-fought win and series, and it could have gone either way. I don't know if TFC can advance past Santos (especially after seeing what they did to Seattle yesterday), but hopefully they can put in a better road performance than Seattle did and try to have a big win at home. Optimistic, I know.
Anyway, I think this must be really disappointing for Beckham. What does he have left to conquer other than trying to win the CCL and bring the MLS to the Club World Cup? He'll have another chance when the CCL starts up again later this summer, but will he stick with LA next year if they get past the group stage again? You would think Beckham would have some influence over Bruce Arena to suggest that they rest some players if this happens again.
It's been a great start to the year for TFC and we have to thank LA for that because last week's game would not have been such a success if we didn't have a great team with lots of stars to bring in the fans. Now everyone is fired up in Toronto and looking forward to the season. I'm sure LA will be ready to exact their revenge when we come to visit again later this season.
Cheers!

LA should have brought in a serviceable defender before the CCL matches. They should have dumped Leonardo and brought a quality guy in until Omar returns.

-

Who?
I think it's hard to find anyone who compares to Omar who stands any chance of fitting within the salary cap.

I don't doubt that Bruce has the tools to right the ship, but for me the biggest problem lies with Boyens. The mistakes Saunders has made this season have been due to a lack of trust in the guys in front of him. Lesser issues are rearing their heads, Juni has not shown up yet and clearly Birchall was doing way more than we thought he was for the Galaxy midfield. They'll figure it out and get back to their winning ways as soon as the center back gap gets closed.

David Couldn't agree with you more on the Cardozo trade! It's a bench player for a bench player. A “like” for a “like.” Lopes will get a chance to crack the starting lineup soon. But with Cardozo he had that chance. And he sits very deep behind some excellent Midfielders!

-

Good analysis. When the trade was first announced, I was disappointed. Other than size and strength, Cardozo has all the tools to develop into a solid player in this league. I had always hoped that having Cienfuegos on the staff would have helped him develop into a playmaking midfielder. To your point, that was probably never going to happen in Bruce's system. Regardless, it felt like we were pushing the panic button too early and trading one of our few high-upside assets for a fringe backup. On Chivas, no less. HE may have been shipped out for any number of reasons. But the quality of his play on the field wasn't anywhere close to the end of last season.

-

As you noted though, we are going to regret it when Cardozo scores against us in the net “Superclassico.” Wow, I feel dirty having used that word.

-

They had me worried for a bit, but they pulled out the needed win in the end. And Beckham's goal was a thing of beauty. Lopes had some terrible moments, but I liked his passion and thought he did well overall. Hopefully this win builds the confidence they need to reverse the trend.
