The Beckham Ad, Larger Than Life (Well, Almost)

By: Laurie | February 16th, 2007

beckham-ad.jpgYesterday I posted the Valentine’s Day Walgreen’s ad. And I must apologize to women everywhere that the Beckham portion of that ad was just so…inconsequential. Then reader Diane asked about “the ring” and I’m thinking, “What ring?” So here’s the real and totally-Beckham ad, courtesy of my favorite guilty pleasure (and the ultimate source for all things Beckham), Kickette.com. (I knew I could count on Kickette.)

So what’s the ring for? Hell, I don’t know. I guess Victoria doesn’t have enough silverware to her name. Or perhaps, since Victoria was in the States for Valentine’s, and Beckham was in Madrid, having dinner with Jennifer Lopez…

Oh. And Jennifer’s husband. And it may not have been technically on Valentine’s Day. I just want to start some unsubstantiated rumors today because I’m bored.

But anyhow. Irrelevantly, did you know that Valentine’s Day has been declared National Impotence Day in England? (Which, to pull this all together, is the original home of David Beckham. Not that there’s any…y’know…conection. That I know of.) And England is now making Viagra available over the counter. How romantic is that? I’m kind of seeing why David picked Hollywood and the Galaxy over the English Premier League.

What’s that you say? Do they not have Viagra in Hollywood?

Well, no, I think not. They buy Hummers instead.

(If Beckham buys a Hummer… Well, then we start to worry.)

  • Hello

    What you thinking about it?

    Vicodin

    G'night

Hmmm, good tip. I will have to remember that if any of the boys start to annoy me. :)
  • Diane, a couple of things. First, don't do too much Galaxy research, or you'll surpass me in knowledge. (And we wouldn't want that to happen.) If you go back in the posts, you'll see that I'm a bit of a Eurosnob (my first true love is the France National Team) who is using this blogging opportunity to learn to love MLS. And I'm actually getting there.

And second, do go back and read all my poor, abandoned and unloved Archive posts. They will appreciate the attention.

Oh, and third? Have you noticed that the little word "Viagra" keeps away the male commenters?

    Giggle.
  • Not that I am averse to causing controversy:), but now its going to be so boring to ask football questions. I had really planned to go as far back on your site as I could so that I could pretend to know everything there is to know about the Galaxy--if ever asked. But as with all sports, there are just so many DISTRACTIONS!
Thanks for the reprieve and I will try to behave myself in the future.
  • Diane, I'm laughing. Because your comment quoted my mention of Viagra, it went straight to my, "Is this a naughty and/or spam comment" file where I had to specifically approve it.

Yours is the first actual, real comment that I've had to pull from the Moderation file. (Althought I've deleted many others. And they also frequentlly mention Viagra.)

And how much do you want to bet that I'll have to go in and approve this one too.)
  • Thank you Laurie! Here I just found you yesterday (sorry I'm not that efficient) and you are already being SO considerate. Actually did realize the ring is St. George's Cross--must be a gallant offering, although his always look that way anyway. Don't know how all this applies to instincts except of course for the instinctive knowledge that the target audience will be thrilled and delighted.
Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, viagra, Hollywood and Hummers...hmmm...all sounds very L.A. Except I think the viagra is more for movie moguls, and for that youthful group you could probably replace it with Scientology. Horrifyingly enough. My illusions are shattered.
