The Galaxy Pre-Season Begins
By: DAS | January 26th, 2011Author Douglas Adams wrote about how things got started by saying: “In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
I suppose it follows logically from such a start that our Galaxy would stumble their way into a new season. I think it is fair to say things in the offseason did not develop exactly as we fans had hoped. Coming off a strong season, we were looking for a few answers. Instead we are left with more questions. The Galaxy posted their current roster and pre-season schedule: http://me.lt/0R84B. I am happy with the players we have, yet still somewhat unsatisfied with the lineup. Maybe I just miss Buddle, but I think it has more to do with the jigsaw puzzle that remains our midfield.
Moving on to a quote from author Napoleon Hill though, “The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat.” We have a decent collection of talent, so I guess what remains to be seen is if we have the desire.
I should point out that the current roster has only 26 players, meaning 4 more slots could be filled. According to SBI, the Galaxy did just sign a new homegrown player, forward Jack McBean, who may join the team over the summer: http://me.lt/638rx. The last such player, Tristan Bowen, didn’t add all that much, but one of the exciting things about these kids is you never know.
So where does that leave us going into the preseason? Again, a quote, this time from writer Bill Vaughn: “An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” I think perhaps where you land on this spectrum might indicate how you feel about the impending MLS season. I am firmly on the side of the shiny, happy, people holding hands and look forward to seeing what the boys have in store for us this year. Let’s hope they don’t disappoint.
