The Real Deal on the Cannon non-Trade
By: Laurie | December 13th, 2007
So here’s the scoop on the deal that wasn’t.
Apparently — and most of this is just rumor, so take the details with a grain of salt — Joe Cannon was going to DC. Somebody — probably Bobby Boswell, but possibly Christian Gomez — was going from DC to Dallas. And Carlos Ruiz, El Pescadito, the Little Flopping Fish, was coming back to LA. (And of course there were all kinds of enhancements and incentives and other stuff in the middle, the details of which we will now never know.)
So what happened?
One official story is that parties couldn’t come to terms. Another version is that MLS had issues with one team having a DP (Beckham) and two grandfathered players above cap (Donovan and Ruiz.)
What I really think happened though?
I think that when I heard that there was a chance the Ruiz was coming back to LA, my great, howling, wrenching, soul-deep primal scream affected the universe on a quantum physics level and scotched the trade.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that happend.
HATE Ruiz. The whining, diving crybaby.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Cannon will be around next season. But we can cross our fingers that if he has to depart it won’t mean Ruiz’s arrival.

Hey Laurie, I think I echoed your screaming. So maybe they heard it in stereo?
Thank God Ruiz is not coming back. Besides, I thought we were going the European route, no?
And once again — please oh please oh please oh please don’t trade Cannon.
