I don't think that trading Ruiz gives the Galaxy another DP spot because Ruiz was grandfathered in, meaning he didn't count. They could get another grandfathered DP, but they don't have an open DP slot if they trade Ruiz.

Oooh, that would be interesting. He would offer excellent forward support from the back. He's a forward converted to a defender for those who don't know.

Colin, I read that with a bit of skepticism but if it were to be true it would be a fantastic move. all we would need then is a younger/faster center back and lets not forget a solid keeper. It would free up a DP slot, right?

Sorry to break up the beach scenes here, but thought I would pass along news that there is a report from www.mls-rumors.net that a Frankie Hejduk-Carlos Ruiz trade is in the works, and could be completed in the next 48 hours or so. LA would pick up $250,000 from Ruiz's salary, but would also open up a DP slot.

If Lalas pulls this off, it would be one of the better decisions he's made since becoming GM...
