This Headline Hits My Funny Bone

This, and several like it, have been in my inbox since last night:

Donovan warns Americans about Costa Rica

It’s like Landon has a job with the Department of Travel and Tourism.

The USMNT take on Costa Rica tonight, in case you haven’t been following along. Kick off is at 7pm Pacific Time on ESPN2, ESPN360.com, and Galavision. There is a special 30 minute preview on ESPN2 beginning at 6:30pm. So set your DVRs because this should be a good match. The hostile environment in Costa Rica alone is worth tuning in.

Ives Galarcep has the preview and an in depth look at the Costa Rican team.

By the way, I love, love, LOVE watching Donovan play on the right in the US line up. I wish we had the forwards to allow that positioning with the Galaxy. Think Seattle will let us have Fredy Montero? (Hahaha — Hahahahaha)

what a horrible performance, only a few players really even showed up to play. yea Donovan was right on the money when he made that statement, “Donovan warns Americans about Costa Rica” How crappy was that 20 year old field turf they call a field, FIFA needs to demand a quality pitch for any friendly or World Cup Qualifiers,

Pffft I’ve been on fields just like that. Players get out there and pass the ball around and figure out how to play on it. They don’t just LOSE all their touch because of the field. Torres was the only bright spot of the US in that game, and he was pulled off at Halftime, that annoyed me way more.

Also what’s up with the refs shirts? Seriously one team’s wearing red so you come out wearing…RED? They changed at halftime, I’ll bet anything a FIFA official watching the game actually called them up and told them to change.

Speaking of FIFA and that pitch though, FIFA probably got a notice about it but threw it away thinking that it was a joke because there’s no such thing as US Soccer (according to this game it seems).

I’m in no way dismissing their play (or there lack of) to the quality of field because they should have been able to figure it out and make a game out of it. I have always hated field turf and will continue to do so :) The players who I thought stood out were Torres (should not have been sub’d out), Davies (when he came on he made an immediate impact, if he can keep from getting red carded), Adu (held the ball nicely at times and made some nice passes) and maybe Donovan (no support around him at all). Masteroni, Boca, Altidore, Dempsey, Beasley and the rest just weren’t in the game. Hopefully we can turn it around Sat ’cause we need a win badly. Oh almost forgot, I thought the ref was ok in this game for the most part.

Torres feeding to Donovan or Adu is something I’d like to see. Davies is a good player, but he’s dirty as hell. Did you see the elbow that got him banned for 5 games in Sweden I believe? It was ridiculous, just a ruthless attack on another player. He needs a coach that’s gonna box his ears about that.

Hear, hear! To both of you.

Yeah, what was up with the ref’s red shirt? Good choice to switch to blue at the half.

The turf was just awful. Yes, they should adjust. But geez, that turf looked like the fake plastic green crap that people used to put on their back patios.

And I absolutely agree about Torres! He was the only one with ANY touch on the ball. Why the hell was he subbed out? He reminds me a lot of Cienfuegos — excellent touch, ability to hold, ability to create from the midfield.

How dare you criticize those Refs! Refs built this country with their bare hands they did!

That’s right Dustin! I think the term “Manifest Destiny” originally came from an English immigrant ref.
