Thoughts On Beckham’s 100th Cap
By: jen | March 26th, 2008Just a few thoughts on Beckham’s performance during the England v. France match today.
*He worked tirelessly on both offense and defense.
*With the exception of one or two, his crosses were spot on.
*He had a chance at the goal early on, sliding far post, that would have silenced his detractors.
*Regardless of the missed chance (and I’m not sure three English midfielders sliding onto that would have been able to put it in) his performance and his effort were superb.
*When he came out of the game in the 63rd minute (England made 3 substitutions) the English game fell flat.
*Capello said of his game, “David played like I know he can play. I only substituted him because I wanted to see other players and I know him well.” (UK Reuters) Fairly high praise coming from Capello.
Now, as for all of the headlines I’m reading about the England loss spoiling his 100th cap, or by receiving a yellow card it dampened his achievement. Give me a break! Such drama.
I’m proud of him, and happy for him, and I can’t wait to see him take on Landon and the US later this spring. You’re a good man, David Beckham.

Perfectly said on all points, Jen! Including the fact that none of England’s midfielders are the kind of poachers who finish that attempt on goal. The English press and pundits will never stop chattering about all things Beckham because his name sells so many papers — not least of all to complain about the fact that his name sells
. I enjoyed his match, was interested in seeing who else got a run out and how they did, and will stay clear of the press.Posted from

Great report on the game, Jen! I did not get to see the game, so thanks for the rundown. It does appear to me these days that the press is more interested in tearing people down than building them up…this mindset exists in the USA as well. Nevertheless, it looks to be an exciting year for the G’s with Landon and Ruiz teaming up in the attack with Becks superb passing and direction. Thankfully, both Landon & Beckham didn’t get injured today. A few of my old friends got together for a, cheesy but fun, Becks 100th cap victory dance…

lol, well done sir!
Beckham is a class act and there is not a lot of players that can change the direction of a game like he can!

Agree complettely. There was no point putting Crouch in and then taking BeckhaM off. From a France fan’s perspective, a great game!!
