Times Online Says I May Get to See Beckham’s 100th Cap!!!!!
By: Laurie | March 19th, 2008
I’m flying to London tomorrow, then to Paris next week. I’ve got my France-England tickets stored in an exceptionally safe place, along with our passports and boarding passes. You know. The really important stuff.
When I bought the tickets over a month ago, my expectation was that I’d just enjoy watching my French boys play those England guys. I truly didn’t expect to see Beckham’s 100th cap.
Now, according to Times Online, which tends to have good sources for these things, there seems to be a chance that I will get to see both.
David Beckham is to be named in Fabio Capello’s preliminary England squad of 30 today and is poised to win his 100th cap against France in Paris next week.
Barring an eleventh-hour change of heart by the England manager, Beckham will be given some part to play in the friendly international on Wednesday. Capello is unlikely to insist that Beckham flies across the Atlantic in the week that the Major League Soccer season starts only to leave him kicking his heels on the sidelines for 90 minutes.
Although Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are playing on Sunday, Capello will press ahead with naming his 23-man squad on Saturday evening, having issued his initial list — believed to include Beckham — today. It will mean that Capello has been convinced of Beckham’s fitness by his assistant, Franco Baldini, who travelled to Dallas on a scouting mission last week.
I am so excited.
Of course, this could mess up your plans to see Beckham in the season opener, which is, what, three days later? But maybe not. Remember the Chivas game last year? The one right after the England game, where he flew there and back in a matter of days?
Oh. Wait. Maybe we’d rather forget that one.
But at any rate. If he shows up in Paris, I’ll think of you.
(While cheering for France. Shhh. Don’t tell.)

That would be pretty cool. Just for you, I change my vote to yes on the Beckham cap. Luckily, I don’t really care about the Beckham cap personally, so it’s an easy change.
