And now we’re down three. This is unbelievable. Except, sadly, it’ not.

Maybe if Beckham goes to Milan you can buy a real bench…

The fact that the Galaxy can barely avoid last place in the league that they basically run is hilarious.

Beckham has definately changed the way I feel about soccer in the U.S. What a mess. Remember when the Galaxy was good team, Sigi & Steve do.

Glad I missed the game from the sound of it! We just have to win the last game (Dallas) for us to stay at least from the bottom, or should we finish the season at the bottom.

Did anyone else see that goal from the Red Bulls Goalkeeper Danny Cepero he scored with an incredible free kick, I’m sure it will be goal of the week!

    Glen – I saw it ;)

btw – this is a travesty. As a business owner, I wouldn’t let my hottest commodity hang with his shlong in the wind like the Galaxy has done all season. Becks has never been a loser, and now all he does is lose lose lose. I am telling you, its a friggin management crime. We are going on YEAR THREE of a 5 YEAR BECKS IN THE US contract. And the Galaxy is wasting away all that potential for the rest of the league (and itself). So sad. What were they thinking? Becks was going to be the counterbalance to 57175175128 developmental players? Steve Cronin would suddenly NOT look like a deer in headlights? Stop it . . . . what a crime. What a crime . . .

The commentators on HDNet last night were talking about major changes for next year… but I couldn’t help but think that so many changes were part of the problem!

I also couldn’t help but think that the squad we had out there last night was still Alexi’s squad. Is there any way we can levy the salary we paid him over the last 3 years for every crappy performance after we fired him?

And I’m pretty sure it’s official: Where will Donovan be next year (cos you know he won’t be back to this dysfunctional family)?

I love how FSN disses the LAG so badly that they’ll publicize the match last night then run a retrospective on Magic Johnson in the time slot instead of the match. I’m soo pissed. Now I have to watch highlights on MLSnet. Dammit.

How can you say Becks wasn’t worth it? The Galaxy had the highest scoring offense in the entire league thanks to him, Donovan, and Buddle.

The team lacks a solid keeper and has been iffy in midfield much of the season. But I think it comes down to two problems. One is the lack of enough quality players. Two is the coach. Gullit is now gone. And I at least perceive that the team played better under Arena almost immediately. I hope Landy goes overseas. I hope Becks doesn’t. And I hope they can use the offseason to bring in a few more key players and build a qualified squad for next season.

“Highest scoring offense in the entire league” B.F.D. That still didn’t get the team into the playoffs and they could still dead finish last. So much for that argument.

Well Dave, it is a fairly valid argument for not placing the full blame for the season’s demise on your offense — no matter who that includes.

Beckham isn’t a defender. The point is that the problem with this season was not his level of play. It was the management decisions made to accommodate him and the staffing choices made over the last few years. That management is gone. A new coach is here and has demonstrated he can do better. A few appropriate trades this winter and the team will be back. And perhaps with fewer fair weather fans.

I agree with you about the poor decisions made by management to accommodate poor staffing choices, possibly including Beckham (I know you aren’t one of those saying so David, but many people do). But those decisions included player acquisitions. It’s not as if these guys stormed the gates of the Home Depot Center and demanded to come wreck the team, which is what many of the what happened analysis make it sound like.

I think there can be little doubt that bringing in Beckham caused them to make changes that weakened the team significantly. Good proof that winning soccer is not about one player. I understand that the people making the trades didn’t know Buddle would be good and expected more out of some players, but with hindsight they clearly made very bad decisions, some of which were not necessary (like giving up Albright only to later bring in Franchino). I blame them for that. And the team is now bad. But I don’t think the badness is continuing. I think bringing in Arena and removing Gullit and Lalas will make big difference.

Probably a good thing. Keep him match fit. Danger is it becomes permanent, but I think unlikely. His family wants to stay in LA and he has a lucrative contract here. Bigger question is Donovan. He would be a harsh loss. But I think better for US soccer if he goes to Europe and the Galaxy can use the salary cap space.

last match approaching and no new game preview or writeup. lets just hope for a good showing and Donovan can put away a couple goals to win the golden boot.

Sort of sad what’s on the line really. Dallas needs a win to make the playoffs. LA needs a win to avoid being the last place team in the league. If this were a European team, the Galaxy would be relegated. Let’s hope Arena is more capable than the prior staff and has the means to turn this around. Boy do I miss Sigi. I’m still mad that they fired him.

David, Dallas is out of the playoffs too. Both teams will be playing for pride and the Golden Boot (Donovan has 19 goals, Cooper has 18).
