Vote for Landon’s Goal as Goal of the Week
By: Laurie | April 21st, 2008
I’m voting so many times this year for “Goal of the Week” that I think I’m developing a crush on the announcer. There’s just a certain…je ne sais quoi about the way he says:
“Sierra Mist! GoalOfTheWeek!”
i believe that my crush will be deepening this week, because I’ll be voting early and often (as will you) for Landon Donovan’s gorgeous diving header.
Don’t tell my husband.
And we need to carry the load here, because I don’t think there are many players who are more hated in the rest of the league than Landon Donovan. Although he may also be the most loved, because he’s currently winning.
Let’s keep it that way. Vote, vote, VOTE!

No other goal choice is as spectacular as Landon’s diving header. It’s great to see Beckham/Donovan connecting like they are! If they can continue and throw Ruiz (in form) in the mix, should have some offense this year, now if we can only solidify our back line :p

I’ve always heard this but never really understood it- so please forgive my ignorance. But why is Landon Donovan so despised? Is it because he left Germany?
And I will be voting for his goal- that was gorgeous.Posted from

Landon has an over-inflated ego, pees on sacred Mexican ground, tries to intimidate Argentinean soldiers, threatened to cut the throats of FC Dallas fans, is a afraid of competition (as you mentioned), is a mamma’s boy, probably kicked a couple puppies and a kitten while you were reading this and took this picture:

I hope that answer’s your question.

For a comical read, look at San Jose’s pitch for their goal of the week.

Bravo Robert for pointing out all of Donovans Negatives but not one positive, this is where i come in. Instead of boring you, My man Steve Davis summed it up best in this BRILLIANT Lando article.

Good reply, Ronny, that is the definitive article on Donovan hatery. (Is that a word?) People hate on LD because they are, No. 1, jealous and, No. 2, they can’t live vicariously through his exploits in europe since he came home.
It was a gorgeous goal and it deserves GOW.

nicole, jealous? really? i can think of a few players it might make more sense to be jealous of. does he make more money playing soccer than me, well, let’s see:
me = $0 this year
landon = $900,000
ok so he wins that round but then again so does scott bolkan and every other pro soccer player.
i can also think of better players to live vicariously through.
it was watching him play with the men’s national team that got me hating on him. always seems so full of himself and came off like an asshole.
he’s actually the reason i don’t like the galaxy. started my mls fandom by rooting against landon. gave me something to root for…err…against.
laurie, i don’t think you should be supporting dog fighting =). just what is dog in one’s fight?Posted from

my bad, read that wrong. dog in ‘this’ fight. even more of a dog fighting reference than i thought. i was joking just in case anyone thought i was serious about getting on laurie over that. there much dog fighting where you’re from?
by the way, i think it’s a toss up between landon and jozy.Posted from

Nick, you’re right. Dogfighting is one of the top pastimes in Seattle, right between “Visiting Starbucks” and “Bugging our Microsoft friends for free software.”
