We Have A Deal! (Updated: LD Interview)

By: jen | March 20th, 2010

I’m updating this post with video of Landon Donovan speaking to a reporter, for those of you who prefer your news via video.

Looks as though the season will begin as planned as the talks produced a deal today which prevents a strike by MLS players.

The deal includes (from SBI):

Guaranteed contracts (details to come on how many), improved freedom of movement by players out of contract (not quite free agency) and “greatly improved compensation” for players. The league will create a new Re-Entry Draft, where players out of contract will be able to be selected by new teams after the season.

More details will be forthcoming over the next several days.

So there you have it. The season will begin as planned. Landon will remain in SoCal. And each of the MLS players in the World Cup squad player pool will have the opportunity to play before WC camp begins in May.

More on the deal here.

I am sooo ready for the season to get under way. Landon had a fantastic run over in England and I wanted him to stay but would have definitely missed him in the Galaxy jersey.

I know it's just exhibition tonight, but still. If anyone cares about starting lineup:

    Donovan-Buddle
    Lewis-Kovalenko-Bowen-Juninho
    Alex-Leonardo-OG-Franklin
    Ricketts

Didn't see Berhalter warming up. Mathis, Klein, AJDLG, Mathis and others on the bench.

Oh, that's funny Michael! At first I thought it was the cover of a booklet, but you're right, it looks like significant doodling on a white legal pad.

And LD looks SHARP in a suit coat!

Did anyone notice in the picture of Garber and Donovan, you can clearly see Garber has been doodling during negotiations?

Thank you, Jen, for the the update! I was looking forward to the MLS season. Good to see things have been ironed out.

I also really enjoyed watching LD play for Everton. Too bad it came to an end... but there is next year. Later!
