We Have A Deal! (Updated: LD Interview)
By: jen | March 20th, 2010I’m updating this post with video of Landon Donovan speaking to a reporter, for those of you who prefer your news via video.
Looks as though the season will begin as planned as the talks produced a deal today which prevents a strike by MLS players.
The deal includes (from SBI):
Guaranteed contracts (details to come on how many), improved freedom of movement by players out of contract (not quite free agency) and “greatly improved compensation” for players. The league will create a new Re-Entry Draft, where players out of contract will be able to be selected by new teams after the season.
More details will be forthcoming over the next several days.
So there you have it. The season will begin as planned. Landon will remain in SoCal. And each of the MLS players in the World Cup squad player pool will have the opportunity to play before WC camp begins in May.
