If anyone's a basketball fan and turned on the TV for the Jimmy Kimmel pre-game show, Becks gave his own 2 second version of events. He was very cute about Chris. You know it will be on google.

To be serious for one second (horrifying). We have to be careful what we wish for because the only way pitch invasions have been completely prevented is with fencing.

There's always a balance with risk. Even the Beckhams try not to live in a complete bubble. Despite having had actual kidnapping attempts, as well as numerous death threats (are people NUTS or what!?), they use bodyguards to protect them from harm rather than contact, as evidenced by the fact that when they're not with their kids -- or at risk of lateness in the case of the OCD one -- they'll both stop for fans.

Beckham's security would have stayed put until danger was clear, but dear Chris went for more caution. I'm nominating him for defender of the year ;-) !

I think another common assumption is that the "fan" is just going to run across the field, not actually run up and touch a player.

I'm not sure what the security is like now at the HDC, but when I went to the Rose Bowl all the people in their yellow security jackets looked like 18 year old rent-a-cops.

And I'm sure Becks' bodyguard must have a permit to carry, right?

I guess I will never know. I'd love to see the kojak moves from the guy in the suit though if anyone finds video. I'm guessing those guys pack heat too.

Right after, my buddy and I were talking about how the fan got all the way to Becks before being taken down. But it wouldn't be that hard. They have a lot of security guards posted along the perimeter. But we watched and there was a moment when the two near us looked away. The wall is only about three or four feet tall - easily hopped. It would take them a minute to get over after you (and it looks like in this case those guys stayed put). So if you were nimble, you could do it. Of course, they would probably ban you from the stadium for life!

I'm with Box on the "strange" clarifications. I was biting the ends of my fingers off at the last 15-10 minutes... the nails were long gone. I'm glad we held out. The fan did us a favor by slowing things up in the final minutes... I don't remember it being in the middle... damn that Xanax messin' with my brain.

As for the fan-invasion... I got a laugh and a chuckle from it. If we were losing I'd probably be pissed off. It's the same craptasm that comes with having guys like Becks on your side. Either that or I've been in the Entertainment biz waaay too long...

The guy in the suit who ran from where the fourth official was standing, and got there right after Klein, was his personal body guard. The other guys in uniformed shirts who led him off were stadium security.

I sit down on the other end of the field but all the
players just stopped until the guy grabbed Beckham
and then Klein decked him. Right after that three or
four people hustled onto the field and escorted the guy
off. It didn't look like any of them roughed him up
except to keep him from raising his hands in a "Rocky"
pose. I had assumed when they mentioned Beckham's
bodyguard they were referring to Klein. But again I
was down at the other end of the field.

What I couldn't get was the crowd cheering him. All
I could do was think this asshole is going to get two
more minutes of extra time put up and Colorado is going
to get the equalizer.
