Who is Mike Caso and Why is he Sitting on Our Bench?

By: Laurie | August 13th, 2007

Did anybody notice anything different in the “subs not used” part of the Galaxy game recaps for the past couple of games?

Does the name “Mike Caso” ring any bells?

Mike who?

I knew before starting my google search that:
a) he wasn’t a regularly rostered player at the beginning of the year, and
b) I’d written something about him earlier.

So I went back to my archives and checked. Sure enough, he’s listed as playing in a Galaxy Reserve game back in May. Spelled “Casso,” which was copied and pasted from the Galaxy homepage reserve game report. (He has also played in other Galaxy reserve games which I never got around to writing about.) And, interestingly, he scored for the Reserves in June. The Columbus Crew Reserves.

But here he was, sitting on our bench. So I went to the current roster, where lo and behold, he’s listed as a Developmental Player. He apparently has the Galaxy’s many injuries to thank for the opportunity. I would give you a photo, but all Google seems to be offering up are pictures of the accordian player of the same name. Which, while exciting, are not what I’m looking for.

So how and when did he end up on the roster when I wasn’t looking? Let’s head to the Santa Clarita Radio homepage, shall we? (Since it’s the only source that seems to be covering this.)

Mike Caso, a standout soccer player for the Hart Indians in Santa Clarita has signed on to play professional soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Caso is a developmental player, who will be playing hard to try and move onto the starting roster with the likes of superstar David Beckham.
After graduating from Hart in 2002, Mike went on to play soccer for the University of San Diego.
Mike’s father, Joe Caso, owns Frontier Toyota in Santa Clarita.

Thank you, KHTS. That explains everything.

Go, Mike! Welcome to the Galaxy. Make us proud.

I figured he was the personal water boy for Beckham, but perhaps he was just trying to get Becks to buy a Prius from his father’s dealership.

I’ve watched Caso play high school and club soccer and this kid has talent. Although he is on the bench I guarantee he will prove to be a great asset for the Galaxy once it’s time for some of their “old timers” to retire.

Ruben, I would be good with this. I’m wishing him the best of luck.

“Bobby boy” your a fag. Mike Caso kicks ass. Mike has earned everything he has achieved himself including putting himself threw school without daddys help. If givin a chance he’ll probably give Davey boy a good run for the money. Keep up the great work Mike a.k.a. “Over Achiever”.
