Will Galaxy Rookie Ty Harden Be Cleaning Becks’ Pool?
By: Laurie | May 23rd, 2007How much do I love Galaxy defender Ty Harden? And it’s not just because he and I share an alma mater, either.
This comes from the British tabloid The Sun:
Defender TY HARDEN runs a pool valeting service to beef up his £9,000 annual earnings from football.
He is one of the lowest-paid players in America’s Major League Soccer, doing odd jobs for teammates and other club staff to eke out extra cash.
Now he hopes this will help him pay back £500,000-a-week Becks if David treats his new pals to nights out at some of Tinseltown’s hottest hangouts.
Ty admitted: “It could be embarrassing if he buys a few of us dinner at a top restaurant and expects the favour returned.
“The only way I’ll be able to do that is if he pays me a couple of hundred bucks to clean his pool.”
How adorable is that quote? David, have mercy on the boys, okay?

Thats really sad that our professional athletes in MLS have to have odd jobs so they can pay rent and eat dinner.

What’s interesting is that Ty Harden seems to have become the international poster boy for underpaid MLS guys. He’s played every minute all season, he plays on the Galaxy, he’s good, and he’s blond and photogenic — not unlike another, better-paid player. The contrast is too delicious for the media to pass up.
He’s showing up in articles from all over the world, and especially in the UK. Perhaps the international shame factor will finally get these rookie boys some more money.

Photogenic proof please.

Diane, for me to do that would feel creepy, since I’ve known one of his UW teammates literally since kindergarten, which for some reason makes me feel all maternal toward Ty himself.
(And plus he seems to be like Ante Jazic — still photos don’t do either of them justice. Or…um…so I’m told.)

But next time I write a post on Ty, I’ll be sure to dig up a photo. Just for my female readers.
