Yes! We Got Him!

Call him old, or slow, or old and slow, but his experience is much needed and he’ll help the team.

The Galaxy have signed Gregg Berhalter.

From the official Galaxy site.

ESPN’s article.

Nick Green from 100 Percent Soccer.

Luis Bueno’s take on it before it was official.

We clearly still need a better goalie after todays loss. Saunders just isn't a starter. An ok back up, maybe, but there are even some amazing back ups out there that blow him away (Pickens, Knighton, Thornton, etc). I think Ricketts is on his way out for good. He's so MIA. Maybe they'll get Tony Meola! lol.

    From MLSnet yesterday:

"Reports that Costa Rican international Carlos Hernandez is en route to The Home Depot Center appear to have been premature -- which is curious since the reports originated earlier this week from the man himself. For now he remains property of Melbourne Victory in Australia, and news of his impending arrival in Carson was news to the Galaxy, too."

A useless pickup becuase he is not starting over Sanneh or Gonzalez. Sanneh already provides the experience. The Galaxy need an attacking midfielder for the team to improve.

Where the heck is Carlos Hernandez????????

Al, I left my comments out and linked others' comments for lack of time on my part.

Yes, we DO need youth. We need talented youth. But I can only guess that part of the problem in acquiring talented youth is the team's performance of the past three years and it's reputation.

I don't believe that Arena is clueless, but I don't think he should be knighted either. I believe he is doing his best with the hand he is being dealt. He COULD be an outstanding poker player who just isn't getting the best cards right now.

We'll see. We only have one game under our belts. And as we know, last year started out with a beautiful bang only to end as utter crap.

I must be missing the rest of your blog. All you said was, "he'll help the team". Do you plan to validate that thought or just leave it at that and hope this blog passes for informative? Sheesh, that was lame, but not as lame as this acquisition. He will help the team if they need someone to roam around slower than my Grandmother. We DON'T need experience, we need YOUTH, but Arenas is clueless and keeps picking up these AARP members for no reason. The young strikers out there in MLS making waves right now are going to run circles around these old defenders, mark my words, worst pick-up yet and Galaxy is even more doomed than we were last month. i thought we'd get better but thanks to Arenas we keep getting worse. I'm thinking he should go grab Pele next, we could use the "experience".

Can we find any players who don't come with walkers?? LoL. Seriously, though. I'm here to say the Galaxy does not need more experience. Soccer is a game of youth. You retire at 35! Except now, you retire from Europe and then come to MLS and keep making money and get treated like a star. Look, the key is not just youth...but talented youth. We have old man Eddie Lewis (hurt), Chris Klein, Donovon, Kirovski, Kovalenko, Dunivant...GIMME A BREAK! How much more "experience" on the field do we need?? Plus those guys are all hobbling around on the DL half the time. Look at Seattle..Alonso, Montero, Hurtado...talented youth. The Yankees tried what LA is doing. It doesn't work. You don't load up w/ players who "used to be great at age 23"...you get players who ARE great at age 23. Byu the way, anybody seen Ricketts around? :-P

That's a good question, Tucker. So far the unofficial news is that he's coming to us on loan before he heads to Australia in August. He's supposed to be VERY good -- like a Fredy Montero (Seattle). If he comes and plays well you can bet the Galaxy will find the money to buy him. I bet we can make an offer they can't refuse.

I really hope we can find a balance between youth and experience now, but im glad we got him. And what is happening with the lad from Australia that was supposidly coming on load?
  • Glen
I just hope he's healthy and ready to play, we could use his experience for sure. His age/wheels worry me a little but we'll see what happens.
