Zidane Says Beckham Deserves to Win with Real
By: Laurie | June 13th, 2007
I am hip-deep in visiting relatives right now, but NOTHING can make me turn away from the opportunity to post another Zizou photo. So when articles start showing up in my mailbox listing the names of Zinedine Zidane AND David Beckham? I am SO right here for you, (all for you) my dear readers.
Former Galactico Zinedine Zidane is rooting for his former team, Real Madrid, this weekend as they fight it out with Barcelona for the La Liga title. (Although me personally? I’m kind of rooting for Barca, because if they don’t win my beloved French guy Lilian Thuram will get the blame for the defensive errors that cost them the game on Saturday. But I digress.)
Zidane’s take on all of this?
Zidane said: “My dream is to see Real Madrid win La Liga.
“I would love it for the club, obviously, for the players, but above all for David Beckham.
“He deserves to leave having won a trophy.”
So go Madrid! Or go Barcelona! Whatever.

When did Zizou and Becks make-out before a match? Wouldn’t that get more press than Posh’s reality show?

As I think about it, the whole cuddling issue could be MAJOR, and it the one thing that has gone completely unaddressed. So let’s put ALL other concerns aside. I’m sure being pilloried in the press here won’t give the Beckhams a moment of culture shock, but David’s been playing in Europe all his life, and he’s used to more smooching and hugging and clinging and crying on the pitch than we see at most weddings. I can only imagine the kind of withdrawal a person could go through if faced with sudden deprivation. I’ve tried to check whether MLS is up to the standard but U.S. TV doesn’t seem to linger on the celebrations and I haven’t been able to get to a match in person to further my researches.
So, should I be concerned or are the MLS boys as good in the clinch as the rest of the world? So many players, so much to worry about…Posted from
