Albright, Cronin and Gordon are Coming Back for the Galaxy

100% Soccer is reporting that the Galaxy have re-signed Chris Albright, Steve Cronin and Alan Gordon.

Albright is a relief, Cronin was expected. But Gordon? What’s up with that? He just didn’t impress me this year. Is it because Glinton’s gone to San Jose and Pavon either is or will be out the door? Do they just not want to shake up the strike force too much at one time?

But maybe I’m too hasty and too harsh. He is tall. There is that. And he was injured a lot last year. If he’s healthy, he might be a factor.

Right?

I’m a little surprised by the Albright signing. Not because it’s not a good thing, but because the rumor was that they were willing to deal him last year before he got injured, and because Chris Klein did such a good job at rightback last year. And because rumors keep popping up that AEG wants to bring in another superstar, which means another DP slot, and Albright is one of the few players who has enough value to deal. But who knows? Maybe that’s part of the strategy?

With Cronin, I would have been surprised if they hadn’t signed him.

Ahh, but can you just imagine the right side of the field? Albright, Klein in front of him, Becks in the middle with Landon floating around underneath the strikers (what strikers? Yeah, I know. We can always hope). Is there such a thing as a target forward who is also really quick? Because that would be the perfect complement.

It was the week before he got injured -- I think the injury was what scotched the trade. And I don't think it was Yallop who wanted to trade him, but we'll never know.

It was at the start of the major "Oh my dear Lord, Beckham's coming and we suck!" trading frenzy. I think it was supposed to be Nate Jaqua and Albright out in exchange for Carlos Ruiz, (blech! blech!) but I'm too lazy to go back and research it. :-)

Why did Yallop wnat to trade Albright? Not becaue he got injured so early in the season. I thought that was not allowed. Or is it waiving injured players thats just not allowed? Ugh.

Gordon? Again, i hope L.A. is planning on trading this guy, How many more chances is he going to get... Alan never seems to amaze me.

If this was Albright's last year on his current contract he would be an international free agent and would need to renogotiate to stay in MLS no matter who held his MLS rights. It's worth more to trade a player with a contract with good terms in place than a player that needs to negotiate (a player with expensive terms not so much). Plus Yallop wanted to trade him, who knows with Gullit & Cobi?
