Landycakes has much to prove to me. Last season (not much of an representative example, I know) Becks was delivering balls to Lando's feet and only twice did he make anything of it. I'm just not a fan of the boy... too inconsistent. And the rituals... don't get me started.

Anyone know the reason Lando wasn't on this "Asian tour"?

I was disappointed in Cronin's PK work and it didn't help I was watching with two club keeper coaches. But other than that I felt he did fine. The officiating was a bit strange in the end... of course I was sleepy most of the time I was watching.

Diane's right about Klein. His quickness has improved. When he's on the far side of the field (and I don't have an HD signal) I sometimes confuse him with one of the young 'uns. He's pretty spry for an "old" guy.

Nathan's back four would require a smart, fast right-back, which Klein looked pretty good at the other day--forget which day. As a matter of fact Klein looks to have raised his game a notch, I like grown-ups who keep growing.

I'm thinking that, in regards to the formation, you start with a back 4, then two d-mids (I like this guy Alvaro, except for his BS diving), then the attack is a left winger (Allen looks good, but if Randolph finds his form he'll be good here too), Ruiz up top, Donovan withdrawn just behind him connecting the midfield to the final third of the field, and Beckham with a free role in the field, but based on the right.

I'd like more attacking out of the back 4, but I also think the quick kids on the corners need to be available to cover for the slow old guys in the middle. (Plus Troy Roberts who still doesn't know how to read the game.)

Ronny, I know what you mean. When they announced that Beckham would be playing for LA my first thought was, "No shit!?!!" and my second thought was, "Oh my God! He and Landon will make beautiful music together!!!"

Nicole, that's a good point about Gordon's touch improving. I actually see it as one of his strengths now. Last year he was kind of a Mack truck who couldn't head. At least this year he's a Mack truck who can't head with foot finesse. :)

But all in all, a good start to the season. Even Ruiz has me smiling -- well, grinning anyway.

Saturdays game was different by one player. Vagenas, i remeber about four or five scary counterattacks set up by Vagenas being out of position or making horrible passes. The passing was great at times, it just seemed that he would kill flow and movement of the ball. Now I am hoping that the Gals can pass this way against the quicker teams in the MLS. The rooks look solid and make some mistakes, but they at least have a ton of heart. Add Donvan up top and we'll score goals. The back for will play o.k., we'll just need to find someone to take over for Xavier in NY, Toronto, NE, RSL, and any other turf stadium.

YES! YES! I too miss LANDO out there schooling most of these kids. I cant wait to see the full starting 11 out there playing "Sexy Football". Lando, ruiz and Becks should be fun to watch, but it will be more interesting to see how well they play together. Anyone ever thought you'd be saying Lando, Carlos and DAVID BECKHAM playing alongside each other one day??

Good job, Jen!

I too think Ely Allen has definitely solidified his place. If he can ever get his finishing up to par, he's going to be good for some goals this year.

The way I feel about Alan Gordon...he is so improved this year over last year, especially with his touch on the ball. Last year he had no touch at all and this year he seems to be handling it a little better. At least the ball doesn't caromb off his shins all the time!

Looking forward to your expose (with an accent mark!) on Donovan. I love to watch that guy play.
