More Galaxy Keeper Thoughts
By: Laurie | February 24th, 2008I stayed up and watched the first half of the game on ESPN Classic, so I did eventually get some of the commentary. (I would have watched the whole thing, but I’m old and that’s way past my bedtime.)
Included in the commentary were a few goalkeeper updates and rumors.
First, supplemental draft pick Charles Alamo was the one in goal for the Houston shutout. That’s good. But he ended the game with a major, serious knee injury. That’s bad.
Curious how you think the Galaxy will handle this one.
Second, in the game last night they mentioned that the rumor is that the Galaxy have been in talks with RSL about bringing in keeper Chris Seitz.
Not sure how I’d feel about this. I became a big Seitz fan during the U-20 World Cup last summer. Kid has some talent. I think his total compensation was about $90,000 last year, but he’s former Generation Adidas. So I’m assuming that wouldn’t count against the cap. That would be a good thing.
But what would we have to deal to get him? What/who do we have of value? And the kid is just 20 years old. Is that what the team needs right now?
I think I’d be more comfortable signing a USL veteran like Wicks. (Sorry, Portland Timbers fans. And it’s really not just because it would be best for the Seattle Sounders. No, really.)
I just hope we don’t do another panic trade. Hate those.

From what I’ve seen I like Wicks. He seems to have a cool head and good communication with his defense. Is he good enough? I don’t know. But I know I was much calmer watching the games when he was in goal.

I’m a fan of Seitz. Partially because I’ve followed him since he won the College Cup at Maryland, and because he’s a solid keeper.
But is he really that good if he can’t beat out Nick Rimando?

Everyone knows that Wicks has Ebola and he is contagious. His only cure is to come back to Portland ASAP.

Laurie or others, a quick question.
Since Alamo has torn his ACL, what is his status as a member of the Galaxy? Obviously, he won’t be able to play this season. But was he under some sort of contract for the pre-season? Does the Galaxy now pay for his medical care and a salary while injured? Because he wasn’t officially signed yet, was he?

jenl,
The official Galaxy blog said that the Galaxy offered Alamo a developmental contract on Saturday, the day after the injury. I don’t know what he was working with before but that implies to me that he gets to remain a member of the team, and I assume that includes medical care.Posted from
