No News Is Good News

By: jen | March 8th, 2008

I think.

I’ve been reading up on tonight’s match against Hong Kong Union.  There is, surprisingly, not much news.  So here are two tiny pregame tidbits:

*Beckham’s quad seems to be fine.

*About 80% of the seats for the match have not sold.

Ta-da!  There you have it!

So the game is on at 11:00 Pacific Time.  What with Daylight Savings Time, and perhaps a few solar flares, that translates to 4:00am Eastern Time — my time.  So I will be recording the game and watching it in the morning.  You West Coast folks, have fun without me.  I’ll return with some thoughts and reviews in the morning.

Jen… Actually, I just checked into the FSC listing of the LA Galaxy match vs. Hong Kong Union. They’re stating the game is being showed starting at 12AM (PST) / 3AM (EST). I also thought the game was going to be shown at 11PM (PST) tonight. Yeh, a lot of us are hoping that Becks is not seriously injured. According to Hong Kong News sources he was present and participating in the practice & scrimmage sessions today with the rest of the team.

I just recorded it, and on my TV it started at 11 PM (PT).

I hope I’m not adding to the confusion, but as I read the FSC listings the game is at 11pm PST and 3am EDT, which makes sense (at least to me). If there were no change for daylight savings time, 11pm Pacific would be 2am Eastern. But DST requires the clock to be moved ahead at 2am. Thus 2am EST becomes 3am EDT, but it remains 11pm standard time on the west coast. (But that reasoning notwithstanding, and just to be sure, I’m recording for 3 1/2 hours starting at 11 Pacific.)

The Galaxy game will be shown again tonight (Sun. Mar 9) on FSC @ 6pm PDT/9PM EDT.

Oh, and Randolph was cut from U.S. Under-23 team. So, he’ll be available for the Galaxy’s next game against FC Dallas next weekend.

Thanks for the reply times, Frank.

That’s too bad that Randolph was cut from the U-23s, but that’s good news for us. The more players we have consistently training with the full team, the more chances the team has to really gel — something it never did last year (or at least not until September). I’m looking forward to a consistent, chaos-free season this year.

Whoops, that should be “replay” times.

Well, as it turns out FSC started the replay at 5p PDT/8p EDT not 6p PDT /9p EDT as listed. This daylight savings change messed with the program listings. I hope everyone who wanted to see the game managed to despite the incorrect listings. Sorry!
