Galaxy vs. Crew — the Recap
By: Laurie | April 25th, 2007It’s kind of like that old “tree falling in the woods” question. If a soccer game occurred which was seen and/or heard by pretty much nobody, would the results still count?
Fortunately for us, the anwer is yes. But unfortunately, when you’re talking about a game with a profile this low (no TV, sketchy audio, and a miserable official attendance of 5424) there’s not a lot you can find about the game to help us discover exactly what went on. So I’ve been having an incredibly hard time getting motivated to write this up. But because I love you, I’ll do it anyway.
Luckily the Galaxy website has this time around given us timely coverage. For a good recap of the game, click here.
The lineup is a bit different from what we’ll normally see, but with Landon Donovan and Nate Jaqua starting, we’re still A-team enough to get the job done. (And by this I mean: Of course, the ENTIRE team is A-team. That’s what I meant.) I can’t find an official starting diagram, but I copied this from another blog. So if it’s wrong (if, for example, Shavar Thomas and Ian Russell were maybe reversed, which is a possibility…) Well, feel free to blame me. I can handle it.
________Kyle Martino______Landon Donovan______Nate Jaqua
________Quavas Kirk______Kevin Harmse______Nathan Sturgis
Mike Randolph______Ian Russell______Ty Harden______Shavar Thomas
_______________________Steve Cronin_____________________
Quavas Kirk > Chris Albright 63′
Ian Russell > Cobi Jones 72′
Kyle Martino > Robbie Findley 74′
Good to see Ty Harden playing again with no major errors. Should build up his confidence after the last game.
Scoring Summary:
LA — Nate Jaqua 1 (Landon Donovan ) 17
Oh, yeah, about that goal. Nate Jaqua, tell us (or okay, technically tell LA Soccer News) what happened:
“I give all the credit to Landon,” Jaqua attributed. “He made a great run down the left side, got by people and was able to whip in a good ball in between the keeper and the last defender that was able to squeeze through to me. Whether they had a misunderstanding or whether the ball was perfectly placed, I’m not sure, but it got through and I caught it in stride and was able to put it in the back of the net.”
And…um… Yeah. We won. The end.
Oh, yeah, though? One more very welcome comment from Nate:
“Anytime you switch teams it takes a while to get to know the guys,” pointed out Jaqua. “But I’m starting to feel comfortable. I’m getting the nuances down of playing with certain people. I’m starting to understand the way Landon works a little better and I’m playing off him and the other guys a little better. It’s a slow process, but I definitely feel comfortable and enjoy playing with these guys.”
So it only gets better from here, right?
