Galaxy Weekend Wrap-up

I am leaving shortly for a long weekend (again not pleasure, alas), so this will be my last post till Sunday or Monday. Fortunately it seems I have picked the right weekend to be gone, because there is NOTHING going on in the Galaxy universe galaxy at the moment. I mean, aside from the standard “Zidane probably isn’t but maybe kind of could be coming,” stuff, and the “(not)Beckham’s private parts” stuff and the “Beckham’s conspicuous consumption” stuff and the “Landon (or Frank) oughta be worrying about whether they’ll have a job in a couple of months” stuff. Aside from that, nuttin’. Not even a game this weekend to distract us.

So, since there’s no actual news to write about, I’ll give you a few links to keep you entertained while I’m gone.

First, from LA Soccer News, an article on Frank Yallop’s future now that the Gals have taken only 1 point of 6 in their first two games. Money quote: “In Los Angeles, Lalas expressed confidence in Yallop’s ability.” Uh-oh, Frank! The dread vote of confidence. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

And Greg Daurio of MLSnet has an interesting article on those elusive goals.

Opponents haven’t seen the 2007 Galaxy with all their weapons yet this season. On paper the attack is as formidable as anyone’s in the league. They just need to bring everything together to prove it on the field, and Yallop says that’s only a matter of time.

Then we have an interesting take from Dan Loney on the possibility of Zidane coming to MLS. My favorite quote is in the comments:

I guess with Zidane, I haven’t gotten over that leaving-early incident. He seemed bored with both fans and teammates. What makes it worse is how the accusation would go.

“You think you’re better than us?”
“Yes.”
“…”
“Can I go now?”

Snicker. Yup, that would be about how it would go. Except I really don’t think that there’s ego involved with Zidane. It’s more that he doesn’t understand how to interact with life except on the field. (Or with kids. He’s great with kids.)

And last but not least, I’ve found you another entertaining soccer blog that sometimes talks about the Galaxy. If you watched the ESPN2 broadcast of the Galaxy game last week, his liveblog of the game is classic. Best line:

29th: Toja’s hair just ate Kyle Martino.

Dammit, why didn’t I think of that one?!?!
