Galaxy’s Playoff Hopes Not Yet Dead, But They’re Not at All Well*
By: Laurie | October 19th, 2007If we’d won last night, we could have done it on our own, without anybody else’s help. If we’d lost, the dream would be over. Instead, we’re in limbo, relying not just on ourselves but on help from FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake.
Of all the teams I would prefer not to have to rely on…
I was so looking forward to the game last night, but mother nature had other plans. A windstorm knocked out our power at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. So I ended up at a local sports pub, staring at freakin’ Cleveland and Boston, thinking, “How long can two innings possibly take?!?!?”
A long time. That’s how long. I hate baseball.
So I missed the first half entirely, which means I missed both goals. I did get to see the second half, which means I saw strong play on defense and in the midfield, an unfit Beckham who shouldn’t have been on the pitch, and an offense unable to break down the wall. Does that about sum it up? Anything more to add?
*Sigh*
Curse you, Galaxy and Red Bulls! Do you know how painful it’s going to be for me to root for effing Dallas?!?!?
*Yes, I DID see “Spamalot” last week when it was here on tour. How did you know? And now, for the rest of the day, I will be singing this song. And, if you’ve seen the play, so will you:
DAD:
I am not yet dead
I can dance and I can sing
I am not yet dead
I can do the highland fling
I am not yet dead
No need to go to bed
No need to call the doctor
‘Cos I’m not yet dead

What a frustrating game. The highlight for me was watching Cobi…he is a class act.

I thought Beckham looked ok at times, made some incisive passes that his teammates let him down on. Then he looked really unfit and struggled. Looking forward to the game on Sunday, I rather hope results go your way to make it all more exciting.

My thoughts on the game:
1) We did well to contain the J.A. twins up front, aside from Altidore’s goal. As much as I’ve loved Randolph’s play ll season, he was Dane Richards’s B^%ch last night. Thank goodness that guy didn’t do as much damage as he could’ve.
2) Landon was nails last night. great surging runs, deft first touches. Possibly his best match of the year.
3) Becks was okay at best, looked rusty. A bit unfair to put the savior role on him after a 6-week layoff. He needs to start Sunday, though. It’s for all the marbles.
4) Yallop has made brilliant subs of late, until…Why bring off Vagenas for Becks, leaving Tudela on instead of the veteran Vagenas? Thought that was a bit of a mistake.
Sunday, win or lose, should be a hoot to watch!

Sundays game (Galaxy v Fire) will probably be more exciting than the playoff final.

I found the subs curious too, and doing three at once appeared to introduce more of a note of panic than the cavalry coming.
Beckham has only played or practiced sporadically for over four months now. Still, he was missing parts of his game that stay with him even when he doesn’t have his legs or wind back yet. It all points to the foot to me. Which means that no matter how much polishing and cardio he does between now and Saturday, if it is injury that’s effecting his form…

According to MLS, Beckham will at most come on as a sub.
