Injury List for Houston

By: Laurie | April 18th, 2008

Okay, the most recent injury list.

GK Charles Alamo OUT - R knee surgery
DF Ante Jazic OUT - R ankle surgery
FW Carlos Ruiz OUT - R knee
MF Ely Allen OUT - R hamstring
GK Steve Cronin QUESTIONABLE - L groin
MF Alvaro Pires QUESTIONABLE - L knee

Ely Allen? That is NOT good. We’ll replace him with…who, exactly? I suppose we could move Mike Randolph up to midfield and put Michael Gavin at leftback maybe? Hmmm. I don’t think this is a good thing.

And poor Steve Cronin. Is he our first of the season with a groin injury? I don’t wish that on anybody. First because it hurts, and second because we all know how much fun I can have with this phrase.

And not just a groin injury, but a left groin injury. Isn’t it just…

Oh, never mind.

Seriously, my aim here is entirely altruistic. I mean it. Do you know what my true goal is? I want to change the face of the English language. I want to create a world where no player has to go through this humiliation. I want to create a world free of “groin injuries.”

In my world, players will not have these “groin injuries.” Instead they will say, “No! Coach! It’s the ADDUCTOR!! Call it the ADDUCTOR!!! Because otherwise Laurie will use the phrase “groin pull” and have WAY too much fun with it!!!”

Groin pull. Snicker.

Until this utopain, groin-injury-free day arrives, though?

Sorry, Steve. Get will soon!

Alvaro has been on that list since the beginning of the season, so I’m sure he’ll still be in for the game.
The only thing “questionable” about Cronin is why they haven’t started Wicks yet this season!! I’ve had a groin injury, and yeah, Laurie, its brutal, but it’s great if we can see if Wicks can handle the job.
The Allen thing is a blow..I guess Randolph will be pushed up with Gavin in back.
Anybody else here curious if Klein would be good up top instead of Gordon?

I like what Nick Green (100 Percent Soccer) had to say about Franchino’s return - “Like a character out of The Sopranos, 31-year-old Joey is back for a second go-around (you got a problem with that?)”. Franchino’s stats: 52 yellow cards, two red cards in 210 regular season games. Also of note, Gavin was moved to the developmental roster to make room for Franchino on the senior roster. Franchino will also be arriving in time for the game (Sideline Views). Will he play???……………………OK, now a well deserved break from Franchino news (as a muzak version of the “King Of Pain” by the Police plays in the background)…………………..As for the Houston match, I hope X and Wicks get the nod to start over Vanney and Cronin. X deserves a chance to redeem himself and I also think he can handle Ching better than Vanney. We’ll see what transpires - alrighty then.

Finally we get to see Wicks instead of Cronin (cross your fingers and hope he makes a great showing so maybe he’ll be our #1). I want to see Klein push forward and take some long range shots on goal that we all know he can do, Donovan be on target with his finishes, it’s great to see him leading the golden boot. Bring in the X-Man to take on Ching, leave Vanney out for this game. Hate to see Allen out for this match. Oh yea, more shots on goal from Beckham.

Xavier is definitely a better choice for dealing with Ching — especially in the air.

Having Allen injured sucks, but Franchino can play there quite well. I don’t think it will take Franchino long to acclimate to the team. He’s not a stupid player, even though his off field choices may be.

I would love to see Wicks. And poor Cronin. I really want to like his play more — I really do — because what a way to start your first year as a starting keeper.

Laurie, thank you so much for your comments over on Nutmegged previewing tonight’s game. Good luck to all you Gals fans from here in Houston (but not TOO much, as I’m sure you understand).
