MLS Cup Coming to the Home Depot Center
By: Laurie | November 20th, 2007In an act of unbridled optimism, MLS has awarded the 2008 MLS Cup to the Home Depot Center.
(If we play it at his stadium, Beckham’s team will surely qualify.)
Don Garber says: “We are proud and excited to bring Major League Soccer’s championship event back to the City of Los Angeles and The Hoooooooooooooooooooo….” Zzzzzzzzzz.
Oh. Sorry. Dozed off at my keyboard. Garber has that effect on me. But know that they’re thrilled and excited and can’t wait, and LA’s pageantry and top-notch presentation, yada yada.
And of course everybody obviously wants to know what Alexi Lalas thinks of the situation, don’t they? Well, guess what? I can tell you that, too.
“The LA Galaxy are honored to once again be hosting Major League Soccer’s premier match, MLS Cup, at The Home Depot Center,” LA Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas said. “We feel that we have the best fans in MLS and I can think of no better way to reward them for their support than winning our third MLS Cup in front of them at home next season.”
You heard it here first, folks. It’s all about you.

The fun thing about this is that everyone, Garber, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, etc., is all saying how great this is for Los Angeles.
Except, the HDC is in Carson about 17 miles south of Downtown LA.
If I were the Mayor of Carson I would be super pissed that I wasn’t a part of the announcement and I’d be pissed that Antonio was claiming my stuff as his.
I mean this is Carson’s one claim to fame. Unless you count CSU-Dominguez Hills…
