The Galaxy Lost Ugly, but LOOK! The New Kit!

By: Laurie | July 18th, 2007

new-kit.jpgWas there any bright side at all to the truly ugly game last night? The game which was summed up in the CNN Headline as:

Beckham sees Galaxy flop to defeat? The game where I tuned in at the 17th minute to discover that we were down by a goal and Pete Vagenas had already committed four fouls? The game which was, by all accounts, absolutely miserable to watch?

Is there a bright side? Of course there is. The Galaxy played the second half in their new jerseys!! I mean, if we’ve rebranded, life can’t be all bad, right?

We have to keep positive here. Because if we think too hard about how the season is going, I’m afraid that there will be mass consumption of the Jim Jones kool-aid at the Home Depot Center before the year is out.

(They could sell it at the concessions stands for $20 a glass. It could be Beckham’s final contribution to MLS financial solvency.)

Or… Well, yeah! New kit! Pretty new kit!

If you want the gory details of the game, check out the MLSnet recap.

That’s it for me today. I have things to do so I can go watch the Chivas play in the pouring rain tonight. (Hey, relax. I’m rooting for the Seattle Sounders. But I am hoping to get to see Laurent Merlin [aka the French guy] play.)

Check back tomorrow for more fun and exciting news on the Galaxy, the World Series of Football, and of, course, David Beckham.

When was the last time a team switched up kits in the middle of a season, nevermind at halftime?

Chris, if you can’t dazzle ‘em with your brilliance, baffle ‘em with your…uh…new colors?

Love the new kits. Does this mean you have to change the colors of the blog Laurie?

The one bright spot that I take away from this game is that with Chris Klein’s red card (and I’m assuming that red cards carry over in this World Series of Football thing), he won’t be able to embarrass the team any further on Saturday. He can talk all he wants to about the team’s performance (and it was bad) but his performance was the worst.

Doug, everything I’m reading says Chris Klein was miserable. Too bad. I had hopes for him after the Chicago game.

Can you (or anybody) tell me where he played? Was he at rightback again? In the SoccerPubs posts I kept reading “Chris Klein sucked” and “We need a real rightback,” but somewhere it also seemed to imply that he was maybe playing in the midfield? Can anybody clarify?

Does anyone know where that photo with Beckham and the ice pack that Laurie posted yesterday came from originally?????

As far as I could tell, Klein played as a winger, right midfield. Troy Roberts played right back.

Another miserable performance was Harden. He could not contain Fonseca at all.

Sorry, Cockers. I found it on the SoccerPubs bulletin boards. I don’t know where that poster got it. I sent an e-mail to the person who posted it thanking him (or her) and asking if he wanted attribution and didn’t hear back.

Doug, thanks for the clarification. I do think he plays better at rightback than in the midfield. But perhaps not against this team.

Klein was playing line inspector for this game. Its a new position he just made up on the fly where you’re only responsibility is to make sure that the touchline is straight. No real reason to be concerned about the ball or the run of play. Oh, and you do have to complain at the end of the match that “the team” didn’t play well.
