Vermes Initially Offered GM Job

By: jen | August 20th, 2008

Kansas City’s Peter Vermes was offered the GM position before Bruce Arena, but turned it down.

Interesting.

Arena wasn’t AEG’s first choice.

From the Kansas City Star:

“A week ago (Tuesday), AEG asked for permission to speak to me,” Vermes said. “Our ownership group (OnGoal LLC) … granted that permission.

“I got a call, and they offered me the job. The whole thing centered around me overseeing soccer for AEG and serving as GM of the Galaxy.

“I was very flattered at the offer. I’ve known Philip Anschutz well from my time playing with the Colorado Rapids. I’ve always had an idea in mind of working for him.

“At the end, there were a multitude of reasons why I decided to stay.”

    not about Vermes but....
SBI is reporting that the LA Galaxy have dealt forward Carlos Ruiz to Toronto FC, the details should be coming to light soon. Toronto FC have had a busy day on the player movement front, releasing midfielder Laurent Robert earlier in the day. Ruiz has had a tough season after sustaining a knee injury early in the season which has seen him earn limited playing time with LA. Toronto FC will get the goal scorer they’ve been looking for the past few months, and LA can now afford to sign Eddie Lewis.
