What’s the News on Those Galaxy “Cliques”?

By: Laurie | October 30th, 2007

I read a particularly interesting two paragraphs in a Billy Witz LA Daily News article from a few days ago about a team meeting that took place right after the end of the season.

Team chemistry was also a subject that was addressed.

Cliques developed within the team - mostly along the lines of age - and some felt as if it affected the team’s play, especially when so many new faces were thrown into the lineup.

What do you think is up with this? My assumption is that some of the guys, particularly the guys Alexi brought in to become Beckham’s team, were none too thrilled with Frank’s decision to continue playing the younger players during the winning streak.

What do you think about this choice? I was kind of shocked when Able Xavier didn’t get his spot in the lineup back after finally getting healthy. Same for Kevin Harmse, who I always found to be a tough, scrappy, interesting player. And also that Ty Harden didn’t get his starting spot back. (Was he healthy enough to start? Anybody know?) And Kelly Gray wasn’t even on the bench for the last game, was he? Did he get reinjured, or was it just that others were more important?

What do you think about Yallop’s decisions on starters and bench players, and how do you think it will affect next year?

(And be sure to read the Billy Witz article, which is very interesting and mostly about whether Yallop will keep his job.)

The guys who were winning should stay on. They had the chemistry going and were WINNING. Xavier, Pavon to me were busts. Why is Lalas bringing in old men. Harmse spent half the season in suspension for cards; same as Martino, the guy seemed to do more color commentary on games then play in them. The young midfielder with the messed up hair and five o clock shadow (probably did not make enough this year to buy razors)played better then Harmse ever did. Kelly Gray was my only question. He looked like he was going to be great, but after he got hurt it looked like he never made the lineup again. Hopefully the trip they make to Canada we’ll leave Jazic and Harmse there. The back four will be solid with Albright, Harden, Randolph, and Roberts. The midfield with Tudela, Beckham, Donovan, and Gray. Up front Buddle (if ever fully healthy) and Glinton maybe even Sesay will be very quick. Get rid of Xavier, there’s a reason the guy has played for so many teams, he’s not that good. Pavon needs to have a ticket back to central america. Klein will be a decent Cobi Jones next year; he can come in at the 70th minute to make smart veteran plays. Joe Cannon is a great goalie, but he may be better off somewhere else. Are the backups that bad to not take over, if so then get rid of them.

Yeah, Josh Tudela. He impressed me too. He played with guts.

(Re: the hair. Jeff at Center Holds It refers to him as “Monchichi.”

Yes, I giggle at this. But at least I have the decency to feel guilty about it.)
