Beckham + Achilles Tear = Ronaldinho?
By: jen | April 27th, 2010
In late 2006 when I heard the Galaxy were pursuing David Beckham I said to myself, “Yeah, right. Good luck with that.” Well, you know how that turned out.
So now I can’t help but investigate crazy rumors of Big Name player acquisitions because, well, you never know.
The latest rumor goes like this:
*Beckham has achilles injury which is now reported to have him out the entire season (through November at least).
*MLS might allow the Galaxy to obtain a DP in place of Beckham during the summer window transfer.
*Supposedly, both Raul and Ronaldinho (AC Milan teammates of Beckham’s) have previously expressed vague interest in coming to MLS.
*A new DP would replace Beckham for this season; then under the new Double DP rule that new DP could join Beckham on the squad next year once the grandfathered-in DP Landon Donovan is traded to Everton FC for a hefty transfer fee.
(Did you follow all of that?)
Sound implausible? Perhaps. But it is all spelled out here.
UPDATE from NathanHJ: In fairness to Grahame Jones, who, for all his curmudgeonliness, is one of the better futbol reporters around, I’m posting this link to the full article in the LA Times that The Soccer Room ripped off without attribution. Also it has a picture of Becks with a buzz cut, so extra-special bonus.
I don’t think this plan has legs. At least not Raul’s or Ronaldinho’s legs. But I have been wrong before. What do you say?
