Galaxy “Acquiring New and Exciting International Talent”?

By: Laurie | September 24th, 2007

This comes to me from Galaxy season ticket holder Colin5. He’s given me the exact wording of the 2008 season ticket renewal offer:

“The results to date have not been what you expect or deserve, but there is much to be excited about for 2008. We will be returning a core group of players who have gone through an extraordinary experience together…We will also be acquiring new and exciting international talent to upgrade the overall quality of our team.”

This is me, taking deep breaths. I am NOT hyperventilating.

Seriously, though. Who would you guess they’re talking about? Last week we had Zinedine Zidane and Luis Figo rumors. Would you guess one of these two? And if so, which one? Or could it be both? (Because that Galactico thing worked so well for Real Madrid.)

Or could it be somebody else altogether? Do you think they’re wedded to European stars and/or former stars? Or might they head south for talent?

Truth be told, this makes me a bit nervous. We can’t afford another fiasco like this season. It would be awful for both the Galaxy and for MLS. Can, and should, the team be built around aging former superstars?

Tell me what you think.

Knowing Lalas, I’m absolutely certain he has convinced both Pele and Mardona to come out of retirement!

This team is sooooo gonna rock the geriatric league!

Truly I WANT you to have Zidane, but they only said new and exciting, not well known (or even any good for that matter, oops have I become cynical or just depressed?). Sometime after the season ends and before January 1st I am going to need another tutorial on the MLS salary structure and all of its exceptions and loopholes…with nap time scheduled in.

Maybe they mean Mourinho? Not that I am starting a rumor or anything…

My sister who now lives in the UK said Lalas had contacted her about her 15 year son. Seems he can actually make PK’s.

I heard it was Didier Drogba, who wants out of Chelski now that the Special One is gone and I heard Cristiano Ronaldo wants to come to LA (he’s already wearing eyeliner for the cameras) for the better quality sex workers. In light of these unsubstantiated rumors, I think Alexi is going for a serious strike force.

Maybe Lalas is trying to steal that nine year old kid Manchester United signed a few months ago. Because that’s as new and as exciting as you can get.
